Sign forms in Front of the Notary – Never Sign or Date Them Beforehand!

When you’re getting ready for a notarization, it’s natural to want to have everything filled out ahead of time. But here’s an important rule: never sign or date your document before meeting with the notary.

A notary’s job is to verify your identity and witness your signature — in person and in real time. If you sign or date your forms beforehand, your notary may not be able to complete the notarization, and you might have to start over.

Here’s what to do instead:
✅ Fill in any blanks that don’t require a signature.
✅ Bring a valid photo ID.
✅ Wait to sign and date the document while the notary is present.

It’s a small step that keeps your paperwork valid and legally secure.
